Los Angeles studio Heart Machine has announced an unspecified number of cuts.
According to Game developerHeart Machine said it has parted ways with “a number of talented team members” as it winds down early access development of its Hyper Light Breaker project.
“This was not our ideal path, but rather the only one possible under the circumstances,” the statement said.
“While this path will include the completion of the project, it reflects broader forces beyond our control, including changes in funding, corporate consolidation and the uncertain environment that many small studios like us face today.”
Heart Machine explained that while it still has “something coming in January” for Hyper Light Breaker, the game will “finish with a satisfying conclusion.”
“We plan to create something meaningful that is as polished and complete as possible given our current circumstances,” the developer added.
“We do our best to improve what we can [and] complete key systems […] Given our limited resources and team members leaving the project, we will not be releasing any further updates or hosting Q&As until later this year.”
It concludes: “We want to make sure the team can fully focus on getting the next release into the best shape possible.”
Hyper Light Breaker came out in Early Access earlier this year.
In November 2024 Heart Machine fired “part” of its team.
Hyper Light Breaker was in development at the time, and the studio explained that job cuts “wouldn't hurt.”
“A strong and timely launch will open up new opportunities for those affected as we look to develop and evolve the game throughout Early Access,” the company said at the time.
