Here's what's in this week's newsletter:
Hazbin Hotel undoubtedly one of the best animated shows currently airing. Created by Vivienne Medrano and what started out as pilot on YouTubeThe series tells the story of Charlie Morningstar (Erika Henningsen), the crown princess of Hell, who tries to find a way to redeem sinners and allow them into Heaven. So, she comes up with the idea of the “Hazbin Hotel” as a place where they can work on themselves as Heaven threatens to destroy souls due to Hell's overpopulation. The voice cast of this movie is FILLED with amazing actors, namely a lot of Broadway actors, because yes, Hazbin Hotel This is also a musical.
So, not only is this show fun, but it also features incredibly poignant storylines and boasts some of the greatest music ever created for an animated show. You have Broadway and acting icons like Henningsen, Alex Brightman, Christian Borle, Stephanie Beatriz, Kimiko Glenn, Jessica Vosk, Lilly Cooper, Jeremy Jordan and many more lending their singing talents to some of the most memorable songs I've ever listened to. If you don't believe me, just listen “Gravity” from the second season, which I have been repeating for several days now.
I daresay this is one of my favorite Yorgos Lanthimos films. Bugonia follows Teddy (Jesse Plemons) and Don (Aidan Delbis), two conspiracy-obsessed cousins who kidnap a powerful CEO (Emma Stone) after suspecting that she is secretly an alien sent to destroy the Earth. It's Lanthimos' version of a silly little alien movie, and I ate it up. First, Plemons. running on all cylinders in another incredible performance. He completely makes you buy into Teddy's ideas because you are locked into everything that's going on.
Meanwhile, Stone gets more traditionally comedic moments than in Lanthimos' previous films. It was so nice to see her as the comedic relief in her scenes with Plemons. Overall, I hope Lanthimos, Stone and Plemons never stop making films together because I will eat this every time. If you can, I also recommend watching this movie in the theater because my theater was a lot of fun when we went on a trip to Lanthimos together.
Frankenstein — watch: Guillermo del Toro does what he does best
Guillermo del Toro, the king of fairy tales and gothic stories, returns with his film adaptation Frankenstein. Based on Mary Shelley's beloved 1818 novel, the film follows the life of Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), a scientist who experiments with creating new life in the form of the Creature (Jacob Elordi). Unsurprisingly, del Toro really flexes his goth muscles in this film, and it reminds me a lot Crimson Peak (2015), another del Toro film I enjoyed.
Frankenstein It's a visually stunning film, and honestly, that's probably why I liked it. Although the performances are good, Elordi is my personal favorite; It's del Toro's visuals that elevate this film to new heights for me. This is for real biggest crime Frankenstein doesn't play in more theaters because it screams, “See me on the biggest screen.” If you watch it on Netflix this weekend, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, especially if you're a del Toro fan, but I think some of the magic is lost outside of the theater.
Honestly, I never thought I'd say these words, but Kim Kardashian played with the puppies while answering questions. Yes, that's true. Kim and her Everything is fair co-stars Sarah Paulson, Teyana Taylor and Naomi Watts, did our interview with the puppyand it was delightfully chaotic. Not many questions were answered, but don't worry, Sarah recreated it. Meme “HE'S RUNNING AWAY” with puppies, so I call it a win.
They talked about who they would like to see join them. Everything is fairtheir childhood celebrity crushes, and more. Is the show good? No, but the reaction to this is funny. Also, this puppy interview may have inadvertently led me to the episode Kardashian next season, which is just hysterical. As a result, Daniel Fishel and Pasha Pashkov, unfortunately, dropped out, and now we are approaching the quarterfinals. So, as always, here are the best reactions to this week's episode:
There's been a lot of movie news this week, but perhaps the most interesting was Jennifer Lawrence's announcement of Bodybuilders that he and Emma Stone are producing Miss Piggy, to be written by Tony Award winner Cole Escola. Oh Mary! glory. As you can see, the Internet responded adequately:
Which Disney animated film do you think is underrated?
I recently rewatched Emperor's New Groove for the first time in YEARS and I honestly think this is one of the funniest and best Disney movies that doesn't get enough love. Honestly, I think I enjoyed it more as an adult than I did as a kid because there are so many jokes that probably went over my head. Additionally, Eartha Kitt as Yzma may go down as one of the greatest voice actors of all time. So funny and just good. The one-liners fly so fast in this movie and I think it should be appreciated more.
Well, that's all I have for this week's episode. Screen time. Check back every week for more TV and film recommendations, which celebrities we work with, and more!
