Join the fight at Haymaker
Haymaker has been gaining momentum since its launch on Meta Quest in November, offering a gritty, physics-based take on VR brawling. Now, Console Studios has revealed the game's first major update during the Ruff Talk Showcase, introducing significant changes that deepen combat and increase overall difficulty.
This update focuses on three key areas that directly impact the flow of battles. Players now have access to a new dodge and counter system, expanded kicking capabilities, and more capable enemies with a wider range of attacks. Together, these additions make each encounter more dynamic and demanding.
Evasion plays a central role in the new combat experience. Instead of relying solely on blocking, players can dodge incoming strikes and immediately respond with a counterattack. This creates brief opportunities to regain control of the fight and rewards timing and awareness. The result is a smoother, more responsive combat experience that better highlights Haymaker's physical interactions.
Kicking has also seen a noticeable improvement. In addition to existing techniques, players can now perform roundhouse and crescent kicks. These moves extend your range, add variety to your attack options, and allow you to create more creative combos during close-quarters fights. The added flexibility makes combat less predictable and more expressive.
The enemies did not stand aside. Console Studios has expanded its move sets, giving opponents a wider variety of punches and kicks. This forces players to be alert, adapt to new patterns, and make full use of the updated mechanics.
Haymaker is available in Early Access on Meta Quest headsets, priced at $14.99, €13.99, and £11.99. The update is already available in the Horizon Store.
