ATLANTA (AP) — Mohamed Gueye scored a career-high 21 points, Dyson Daniels had 10 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds and the Atlanta Hawks overcame a series of injuries to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 122-102 on Saturday, evening their record at 5-5.
The Hawks led by 30 points despite playing without three of their five starters. Their star Trae Young is sidelined with a sprained MCL. Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Nikola Durisic, Jalen Johnson and Kristaps Porzingis (the rest) were also inactive.
However, Atlanta led 37–20 after the first quarter thanks to 11 points from Gueye, who started for the second time this season, and also helped with seven rebounds and seven assists.
The Hawks maintained the momentum in the second quarter and extended their lead to 62-47. Los Angeles cut the lead to ten before Atlanta responded with a pair of 3-pointers to end the half with a 68-54 lead.
By the third quarter, the Hawks had scored 26 points, the franchise's largest lead against the Lakers to that point in a game since 1959.
