Hulu presented the first look at “Testaments“, the upcoming sequel to The Handmaid's Tale.
The series, set to premiere in April 2026, is based on The Handmaid's Tale author Margaret Atwood's 2019 novel of the same name and is set in the dystopian theocracy of Gilead years after the events of the original series. “The Testaments,” according to the official logline, “is a coming-of-age story in which a new generation of young women in Gilead grapple with the bleak future that awaits them. For these young women, growing up in Gilead is all they have ever known, with no tangible memories of the outside world before they were brought into this life. Faced with the prospect of marriage and a life of slavery, they will be forced to seek allies, both new and old, to help them their fight for freedom and the life they deserve.
The cast includes Ann Dowd, Chase Infinite, Lucy Hallday, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Isolde Hardy, Shechina Mpumlwana and Birwa Pandya.
Bruce Miller created and serves as showrunner on The Testaments. He also executive produces with Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, Jon Weber, Sheila Hawkin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker, who will direct the first three episodes. MGM Television is a studio.
Based on Atwood's 1985 novel of the same name, The Handmaid's Tale aired on Hulu for six seasons, premiering in 2017 and ending earlier this year.
