The Halo: Combat Evolved remake will release next year for the Xbox Series consoles, PC and, for the first time, a PlayStation console, Microsoft announced Friday. It will be a remastered version of the 2001 game first released on the original Xbox, along with new content.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will contain the original missions from the first Halo game, but with improved level design, updated cinematography and improved navigation. Xbox Store listing. The remake will also feature high-definition graphics, improved controls, and three prequel missions starring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.
According to the author, other changes have been added to the remake. its listingare a “wider arsenal of weapons, vehicles, enemies” and challenge skulls that were first introduced in Halo 2 as additional gameplay modifiers with various effects such as increasing difficulty or randomizing weapons. Some features from later Halo games will be included, such as running and stealing vehicles. In addition to graphics, the game's music and sound will be updated.

Microsoft previously updated the original Halo game shortly after taking control of the franchise, releasing Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary in 2011. But the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved includes something else: all-new prequel missions. These three missions take place before the events of the original game and will feature new environments, gameplay, characters, and enemies.
There will also be two-player split-screen co-op and four-player online co-op, but online multiplayer is not mentioned on the store page.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will release sometime in 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S consoles. Microsoft has not revealed the price of the remake, but it will be available on day one Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscribers.
