According to Guy Jodoin, it is impossible to imagine how much television he listened to. So the small screen naturally brought out the color of what it offers today. And its influence is varied…
Guy, very young, what series have had a big influence on you?
In the morning I went to kindergarten in English. There was always a large TV on a mobile stand. To learn French, we watched programs in French. Hundred Towers of Centura etc. Oraltsy made a great impression on me. At 6 years old it was Bobino. This was really important. My older brothers tapochaient watch their American shows, but I tried to keep the TV on Bobino.
What kind of meetings did you have in the afternoon?
At 4:30 I managed to see what I call the golden nugget: Fanfreluche, Land and Cup, and pirate bowls, Marie Quat'Posh, Nick and Peak, La Ribulding, Grugeau and Delicate etc. Attic with Gerard Poirier. Later, I had the opportunity to meet Gerard Poirier when I did an improv show on Radio-Canada. When I was 17, I asked him how you can do this job and he said, “Be unique.” I was a little sad that he only said it to me, but then I realized that it was about not trying to copy anyone, bring your own color and that maybe young people will want to follow you.
I assume you also watched TV in the evening…
I had a small party on Saturday. I started with Trifle and then it was Canadian evening and hockey, which was really a part of my youth. We made popcorn and teamed up with the player. My name was Yvan Cournoyer, but when Guy Lafleur arrived, my older brothers couldn't take him because his name was Guy. In my living room I became a star […] I played hockey, but nothing worked out for me. I was asthmatic and only scored one goal, so I felt like I was living my hockey dream with Guy Lafleur.
Who influenced you?
Symphorien was very strong. I met Gilles Latulippe on television. He was brilliant, beautiful to look at and fun to be around. He inspired me. I told myself I didn't want to work for a living; I wanted to play. It was he who gave me the taste of working on television. I watched everything he did. My absurd humor was born largely thanks to Pop pumpkin, Fricassee etc. Judicial district. And since I was one of those people who could watch whatever I wanted at home, I listened a lot Tannant. I also listened a lot Janette; I learned everything I needed to learn from her.
That's a lot of time spent in front of the TV!
I watch so much TV! I listened to it in a way you can't even imagine. Returning home, I made a plan of attack for the evening. From 19:00. Until 9 pm no one watched TV except me. It was very self-centered. I listened and walked around. I took for myself only the best from each position.
