Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Saturday that he had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “Following yesterday's abhorrent Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy grid, Canada will support Ukraine in protecting its critical infrastructure,” he wrote.

Increasing pressure on Moscow

Ottawa says it remains committed to providing military and financial support to Ukraine in coordination with its coalition partners.

Canada also says it wants to increase pressure on Russia to end what Mr. Carney called “a war of unjustified aggression.”

The pledge comes amid increasing calls for Kyiv to strengthen the defense of its critical facilities, which Moscow has regularly come under attack as winter approaches.
