Grand jury indicts Texas resident for allegedly threatening Louisville coach

A grand jury has indicted Texas resident Brian S. Mandel for allegedly making threats against Louisville football head coach Jeff Brohm, his family, guard Miller Moss and others.

Louisville Courier Journalciting court documents, said Mandel was charged with multiple counts of second-degree terroristic threatening and a separate count of attempted extortion.

A Jefferson District Court judge issued a warrant for Mandel's arrest. He had not been taken into custody as of Tuesday evening. Court records show his bond was set at $100,000.

According to court records, the alleged extortion charge stems from Mandel possibly attempting to “obtain property valued at $10,000 or more” from Moss “by threatening bodily harm.”

Louisville offensive coordinator Brian Brohm, a relative of Jeff's, was among those allegedly targeted by Mandel. A copy of the indictment states that the threats were made between November 8 and November 9.

Unnamed University police officer listed as a witness who filed the complaint. The motive for the alleged crimes remains unclear. A detailed narrative was also not included in the indictment.

An athletics department spokesperson said the university will remain in contact with authorities throughout the investigation. “We commend law enforcement for their swift and decisive action in resolving this matter,” the media relations department said in a statement. “Threats of violence have no place in our community or sport and we will continue to work closely with authorities to ensure a safe environment for everyone.”

Pending his arrest, Mandel will be arraigned on November 17.
