Google will let you hide sponsored results in search

Advertising in Google search results get a more visible labeland a way to hide them if you are not interested in them. Comfortable! The thing is, you still have to watch them first.

Google currently tags paid results on search pages individually with a “sponsored” tag on each one. This change groups them all into a collapsible section at the top of the page, with one larger label that remains visible as you scroll. On lower In this section, you will see a button that allows you to hide the advertising results, so you will have to scroll through them first. Click the button to hide them and they will remain collapsed under that promotional header; Clicking again to show sponsored results expands them. Google says the update is now rolling out to both desktop and mobile devices.

Over the years, Google has made its paid search results increasingly similar to organic results. there are many loopholes along the way. The company moved from marking paid results as “advertising” to “sponsored” around 2020. A cynical person might think this sounds friendlier to a generation of people accustomed to the sponcon of influencers. The company calls this latest update an attempt to “make navigation even easier,” which I guess is what it is. Wouldn't navigation be easier if I could hide advertising results before scrolling through them? I think so! But Google will never jeopardize its bread business like this.
