- According to Android Authority, three new features could be coming to Google Photos.
- One of the new features includes a new photo album organization tool that will help you save time when sorting through large numbers of images.
- Google Photos also plans to add two photo editing features, including a new face retouching effect and a tool popular in Instagram Stories.
It seems that Google Photos is undergoing another evolution, and this time the company will focus on editing and organization tools.
While we don't know when these features will go live, we have Android Authority to thank for their elaborate teardowns that enabled the inclusion of some new changes that outlets have provided a visual of.
There may be three new updates coming to the Google Photos app soon, including a new photo album organizing feature. But Google's main focus is on photo editing tools, one of which bears a striking resemblance to one of Instagram's most used features.
1. Instagram style text options
Just like you can add words to Instagram Stories and Reels in different styles, Google is testing an option that will let you write text in a variety of new fonts and add it to photos and videos. Android authority Found this in version 7.49 of the Google Photos app for Android.
While the ability to add text to media in Google Photos has been around for a long time, there are limitations to font styles and colors. This new update gives you more control and more creative freedom with new text styles and thoughtful color choices.
Images shared by Android Authority show that the new font styles will have new names including “Classic”, “Elegant”, “Bold” and “Script”, which is similar to Instagram's font titles but with a slight difference.
Its updated menu also introduces a host of new color options, meaning you can choose from a wide palette instead of having to choose from the current seven core shades. At the moment there is no automatic color suggestion or eyedropper feature to select a color from the image itself, but we imagine this will be added in the future.
Frustrated by the limited editing options in Google Photos? That could soon change as Google appears to be testing new retouching settings.
The current version of Google Photos gives you a number of basic photo editing effects and filter options, but in a world where smartphone photography is becoming increasingly popular, users want more editing freedom for specific aspects. This is where Google Photos could introduce a new face retouching effect.
A similar feature is already available in the Camera app, but again, it has many limitations and only works for images taken in selfie and portrait modes. However, these new editing capabilities have not yet been put into action. Android authority found several text strings pointing to a new editing tool, including phrases like “spots,” “teeth,” and “dark circles,” which appear to refer to specific facial retouching settings.
3. An easier way to organize your albums.
Grouping your photo library into separate albums is a tedious job, especially when you have thousands of random photos floating around. But fear not, a solution may be found along the way.
In the latest version of Google Photos Android authority managed to enable a new feature that displays a new chip that appears when viewing a photo added to any of your albums. When you tap the chip, you'll be taken to the album the photo is in, but if it's in more than one album, a drop-down menu will appear showing all the places you can find the image.
Instead of navigating through a photo's info page to find its album, the new setting brings it to the front, making it easier to filter between photo albums. This will definitely save you a lot of time organizing.
