Google Fi's cellular service is receiving updateand since it's 2025, there's a lot of AI involved. You'll be able to ask Google's AI questions about your bill, and another AI option will improve the quality of your calls. AI haters need not despair: there are also some improvements to Fi's connectivity and web features.
As part of this update, a new Gemini-powered chatbot will soon be available for your accounts. The idea is that you can get bill summaries and ask specific questions to the robot without having to wait for a live person. Google says testers have had positive experiences with the AI-powered invoicing bot, which is why the company is rolling out the feature widely.
Next month, Google also plans to enable AI-powered audio enhancements. The new “optimized audio” will use artificial intelligence to filter out background sounds such as wind or crowd noise. If you use a Pixel, you already have a similar feature for ending a call. However, this upgrade will also reduce background noise on the other end of the line. Google's MVNO has also added HD and HD+ calling support for supported connections.
Beyond AI issues, Google is making a long overdue improvement to Fi's web interface. Although Fi added support for RCS messaging fairly early on, the technology didn't work with the service's web features. If you wanted to make a call or send a message from the browser, you had to disable RCS on your account. Fortunately, the situation is changing.
