Goldie Hawn says her friend Diane Keaton I never liked praise. But now, says Hawn, “you can't tell me to shut up, honey.”
In a heartfelt tribute on social media, Hawn wrote that Keaton, who has died aged 79, “stole the hearts of the world and shared her genius with millions, making films that made us laugh and cry as only you could. I was lucky enough to film The First Wives Club with you, our day started with coffee in the dressing room trailer, laughter and jokes, right up until the very last day filming It was a rollercoaster of love.”
Hawn starred alongside Keaton and Bette Midler in the 1996 film.
“We agreed to grow old together,” Hawn continued. “And one day, maybe we'll live together with all our girlfriends. Well, we never got to live together, but we got older together. Who knows… maybe in the next life.”
Midler also remembered Keaton Saturday, writing: “I can't tell you how incredibly sad this makes me. She was funny, completely original and completely devoid of guile or any competition that you would expect from such a star. What you saw was who she was… oh la la la!”
Another beauty from First Wives Club shared her thoughts about Keaton. The comedy, which also stars Victor Garber, Sarah Jessica Parker and Dan Hedaya, stars Marcia Gay Harden as Keaton's therapist who ends up sleeping with her husband (Stephen Collins).
“Oh, how we will miss this beautiful, unique, talented and compassionate woman!” Harden wrote. “All jokes aside, she truly 'worked for love and grew for love' and shared it all with us!”
Harden also shared a video of one of his scenes.
