Golden Globe nominations should give a skewed Oscar picture, plus a new podcast category

Nominations for the 83rd Golden Globe will be announced Monday morning. Expect these films to be mentioned more than once: The Sinners, Evil: Forever and One Battle After Another.

These are some of the films that are likely to be among the top nominees. Since the Globes are divided into drama and comedy-musicals, and there are six nominees in each category, there will be plenty of room for a select few, as well as a few surprise nominees.

Nominations will be announced beginning at 8:15 a.m. ET on CBSNews.com and on the CBS News YouTube and TikTok channels. The second wave of nominees will be announced at 8:30 a.m. EST live on “CBS Mornings.” This year's hosts are Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall.

As the Globes keep coming out of their scandalous pastThere was one notable change this year. For the first time, the Globes are giving out a prize for best podcast. This adds to the award it won two years ago for cinematic and box office achievement, an award that has so far gone to “Barbie” and “Wicked.”

After a series of scandals with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group that previously produced the ceremony, the Globes were sold in 2023 to Todd Boehly's Eldridge Industries and Penske Media's Dick Clark Productions. A new, larger voting body of more than 300 people now votes on the awards, which have moved from NBC to CBS. on a shorter, less expensive deal.

Nikki Glaser returns as host of the Jan. 11 Globes, which will air on CBS and Paramount+. In January, Glaser received good reviews when she hosted the ceremony for the first time. Ratings were little changed, down slightly to 9.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen, from 9.4 million in 2024.

As Hollywood Awards Season Begins, Paul Thomas Anderson “One battle after another” dominated and is considered a favorite for the Oscar for Best Picture. Also in the mix is “Hamnet” by Chloe Zhao. Joachim Trier “Sentimental Value” and Marty Supreme by Josh Safdie.

Helen Mirren will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award in a separate primetime special on January 8th. Sarah Jessica Parker will receive the Carol Burnett Award.
