Giants turn tables on Eagles with complete home victory

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — This streak is over thanks to a rookie quarterback. Jackson Dart. New York Giants finally won an NFC East game for the first time since the 2023 season with victory with a score of 34-17 over Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.

Don't tell Dart the Giants have lost eight straight division games. He said upfront that these competitions carry “a little more weight.” However, this was his first start against an NFC East opponent, even if it was the defending Super Bowl champion. He hardly looked scared.

Dart brings energy to a Giants offense that has long struggled in the division. He threw for 195 yards on 17-of-25 passing with a touchdown and rushed for another score. He played with his feet all over the field. Rookie Cam Tax Bo three touchdowns added.

The Giants (2-4) looked like a different team with two rookies at the helm.

Statistics you need to know: Dart did a ton of damage with his kicks in this contest. He became only the third quarterback in the Super Bowl era to rush for at least 50 yards in each of his first three career NFL starts. Lamar Jackson And Jalen Hurts. Elite company. Dart rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, not even counting a few sacks he avoided thanks to his mobility.

Turning point: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts overthrow wide open Devonta Smith. It happened on third down early in the second half. This resulted in the Eagles losing. The Giants defense really stepped up after this game. It was the first of three punts in a row. The Giants then applied rare pressure and the fullback Cor'dale is great threw a massive interception against Hurts in the fourth quarter that helped put the game away. The Giants' defense held them scoreless in the second half.

Most Amazing Performance: WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey. After Humphrey was left off the practice squad last week in New Orleans, the Giants needed a veteran with Darius Slayton dropped out with a hamstring injury. Humphrey instantly jumped Jalyn Hyatt And Beau Collins on the depth chart and played. He finished with 55 yards on four receptions and made numerous offensive tackles. Humphrey had not played a game this season until Thursday night.

Trend to watch: The Giants scored touchdowns on each of their first two possessions for the second week in a row. It was the first time since 1978 that they scored a touchdown on their first two possessions of back-to-back games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Dart attributed the fast start before the game to some schemes that opposing defenses had not yet seen from them. Kudos to offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and coach Brian Daboll on that front. — Jordan Raanan

Philadelphia Eagles (4-2)

The Eagles felt fortunate to play Thursday night after losing to the Eagles last week. Denver Broncos because, as coach Nick Sirianni said, “We don't have to sit with this loss we suffered on Sunday for too long.”

Opportunity to fight back New York Giants instead, it has become a lopsided loss that will lead to questions about whether there are fundamental cracks. The outward hope was that the long meeting between AJ Brown, Jalen Hurts And Saquon Barkley will help everyone get on the same page and help the team overcome some early season disappointments. The offense looked decent in spots, but Hurts' first interception of the season was a devastating fourth-quarter hit in the red zone that Cor'dale is great returned 68 yards in an error-filled play in all three phases.

Philadelphia lost each of its first five games and was badly outplayed by a team with less talent on Thursday night. It will be a long 10 days of testing before the Eagles get another chance to correct course against the Vikings in Minnesota.

Biggest hole in the game plan: The Eagles should have known this was the best way to defend themselves. Jackson Dart was to push him into the pocket – especially after facing a QB with a similar style the last two weeks. Baker Mayfield And BO Knicks – but they lost control several times, and it cost them dearly. Dart had a 20-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. Later in the shot he ran to his right and found Wan'Dale Robinsonwho broke the tackle and raced down the sideline for a 35-yard touchdown.

Turning point: The Giants' defense forced Philadelphia into a three-and-out on its first possession of the second half. On the ensuing drive, New York set up a nine-play, 56-yard drive capped by a Skattebo TD to make it 27-17. Philadelphia had its highest three-and-out percentage on Sunday at 35.8%, an astonishing number considering all the talent on that side of the ball.

Statistics you need to know: Hurts scored his 60th career touchdown on a QB midway through the second quarter. The only player to score 60 touchdowns in Eagles history is Steve Van Buren (69), according to ESPN Research. The Eagles bulldozed into the end zone four straight times. It was the first time since ESPN began tracking the sneak in 2022 that the Eagles (or another team) did it in four straight games. — Tim McManus
