“We’ll see where this goes over the course of the week,” Daboll said Monday.
Daboll did not provide an update on the health of starting player Graham Gano (groin), who will be has the right to leave the injured reserve for Sunday's game in Philadelphia.
McAtamney has replaced Gano for the last four games, but the Giants also have veteran kicker Youngho Koo on the practice squad.
McAtemney's missed extra points proved costly for the Giants on the afternoon. blew an 18-point lead in the final six minutes of regulation.
McAthamney missed wide left in the second quarter after the Giants' second touchdown.
He missed wide right with 37 seconds left in the fourth quarter after Jackson Dart's one-yard touchdown run gave the Giants a 32-30 lead.
The Broncos then raced down the field on a four-play, 56-yard drive and set up Will Lutz's game-winning 39-yard field goal as time expired.
“We have to take action,” McAtamney said. “I'm not going to shy away from this. I'm going to take full responsibility.”
Those two misses, ESPN's Adam Schefter said on Monday's broadcast, were the first time a kicker missed two extra points and neither was blocked in a game his team lost by one point.
After McAtamney's first miss, the Giants tried to get that point back with two scores on their third touchdown of the game. But that two-point conversion failed, giving the Giants a 19-0 lead in the third quarter.
“It’s a decision we made,” Daboll said of choosing the two. “That’s what was on our map, and that’s what guided me.”
McAthamney is now 9 of 12 on extra points this season. He's 2-for-2 on field goals, but his longest yardage was 31 yards and he hasn't attempted a field goal in his last three games.
This is the third year in a row that the Giants have suffered an injury to Gano.
In a 2023 overtime loss to the Jets, Gano missed a pair of field goals, including a 35-yard attempt late in the fourth quarter. Gano appeared on the injury report that week with a knee problem.
And in the second week of last season, Gano aggravated his injury in the opener against the Washington Commanders. Punter Jamie Gillan missed the extra point after the Giants' first touchdown of the day, and the Giants later failed on a pair of two-point conversion attempts. They lost that game 21-18.
Gano's latest injury occurred during warmups before the Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Gano didn't show up until the fourth quarter of the 22-9 loss and kicked a 25-yard field goal.
“I was in a lot of pain,” Gano said at the time.
McAtamney, 25, made 12 of 18 field goals as a junior at Rutgers in 2022 before missing his only attempt in 2023 as a senior while working as a kickoff specialist.
Koo, who played at Ridgewood High School in New Jersey, made 181 of 211 field goals (85.5%) and 175 of 182 extra points (96.2%) in eight NFL seasons. He spent seven years with the Atlanta Falcons, who released him last month.
