Leading DVR creator Garmin introduced another type of car camera designed specifically for trucks, and it's called dēzl DualView.
The system consists of a transmitter and two IPX7-rated exterior cameras that can be mounted on the truck's rearview mirror or below each side to provide a clear view of any remaining blind spots, as well as visual alerts when other vehicles drive into the areas covered by the cameras. The delivery set also includes mounting hardware.
Gaining a complete view around the truck should give truck drivers greater confidence during any maneuvers such as turning, changing lanes and backing up, and is great news for other vehicles, especially motorcycles and cyclists, who may otherwise go undetected when a truck driver makes such maneuvers.
Naturally, dēzl DualView can also record rides like any dash cam, providing 1080p video and automatically saving incidents to a microSD card.
The live feed can be viewed on the driver's paired tablet or on the dēzl LGV satellite navigation system. Combined with the latter, drivers can use voice commands to control the camera view, view stored video, and check overlays of the location, speed, date and time of the incident.
Videos can be viewed and shared through the Garmin Drive mobile app, provided the user has subscribed to the optional Garmin Vault plan ($9.99 / £9.99 per month or $99.99 / £99.99 per year).
Road Safety Device Every Truck Should Have
I've personally sat in the driver's seat of a truck (during a bike safety course) and can attest to the extent of blind spots behind the wheel. Such knowledge has influenced the way I ride on two wheels around a moving truck.
However, I would be reassured to know that the truck is equipped with a device like Garmin dēzl DualView, and I'm sure those who drive such vehicles would be too.
Until all trucks are equipped with such safety devices, the Garmin dēzl DualView will look like a worthy accessory worth $999.99 / £879.99 at Garmin for the transmitter, two external cameras and editing equipment (pricing for Australia to be determined).
