GameStop Says Its ‘Trade Anything Day’ Led Customers to Bring In a Goose, a Bobcat, And a Wii Netflix Disc

GameStop says it accepted more than 80,000 items during its Trade Anything Day event this weekend—and shared images with IGN of the strangest items it accepted, including a bobcat, a goose, and a Netflix physical disc for the Nintendo Wii.

The chain's major trade-in event was the company's latest promotion, this time designed to highlight its trade-in program, which provides customers with store credit or cash toward a range of home entertainment products.

Typically, this range does not extend to taxidermy animals, road signs, or pictures of your pets with hair like Snoop Dogg. But last Saturday, December 6th, GameStop announced that it would provide (some) credit on (almost) anything its customers wished to bring.

In a statement to IGN, GameStop ranked its “most memorable deals” at stores nationwide, including items such as a “tiny Jesus,” a “speed limit sign,” Air Jordan sneakers and “Friends” VHS tapes.

On social media, customers celebrated exchanging various unwanted items in exchange for credit, including McDonald's Grinchmas socksand what it looked like a copy of the US Declaration of Independence.. Another buyer apparently jokingly said he tried to trade a live dog but was turned away, he said.

Perhaps the most bizarre of all were the stuffed goose and lynx, both of whom looked like they had seen better days. Photos of both are above, next to some other items that were accepted in trade for GameStop.

Last week, GameStop made headlines for another trade story as paid over $30,000 for a rare Pokemon card. The retailer said the deal was proof that its trade-in program offered fair value, although it conceded that the card was actually worth at least $3,000 more. “Any trolls who publicly state that GameStop's exchange value is bad are thereby factually and demonstrably incorrect,” the network said.

And just this morning IGN reported this. new GameStop listing for Resident Evil Requiem that mentions an unannounced character in the game (no, not that one). We contacted GameStop for comment on this matter, but have not yet received a response.
