Freedom says it can’t authenticate $1M phone bill claim

A Freedom Mobile customer in British Columbia says he received a surprisingly high wireless bill, claiming he owes the carrier nearly $1 million.

However, Freedom Mobile reported MobileSyrup that the company was unable to “verify the authenticity of the claim” or identify customers in its systems with such a large outstanding amount.

The client shared the invoice on Reddit.which showed they owed $926,860. Redditor u/Hairy-Rice7451 didn't say more about the bill, whether it was resolved, or what happened, but noted that they were in Vancouver.

Luckily, u/Hairy-Rice7451 doesn't seem upset and instead takes the opportunity to joke about it. Seeing a bill like this can be scary, but it's definitely a mistake, and it happens even to larger companies.

Svoboda told MobileSyrup that he tried to contact the client via Reddit but received no response. The operator says it remains “committed to resolving any genuine billing issues and encourages anyone with problems to contact us directly.”

Recently Bell client found himself in a similar situation after receiving an erroneous invoice for $1.6 million. However, his number was deactivated due to an error.

Update October 29, 2025 10:18 a.m. ET: The story has been updated with additional information from Freedom Mobile.
