QUEBEC — Quebec Premier Francois Legault says he intends to stay in office even as some members of his party appear to be contemplating his departure.
Members of the Avenir Québec coalition anonymously wrote to the tabloid calling on their leader to rethink his political future, according to an article published in the Journal de Québec on Wednesday.
But before question period began, Legault confirmed he would remain in his post.
Legault joked that he took a “walk in the snow,” referring to a remark made by former Prime Minister Pierre Eliot Trudeau when describing how he decided to retire in 1984.
The Quebec premier says after the walk he decided to stay.
Legault's comments come less than a year before the October 2026 provincial election and amid dismal poll results for his party.
