Greene had sought a nationwide ban on children's gender reassignments starting in 2022, but a vote on her legislation has long been impossible.

The Georgia Republican, however, secured a vote on her bill in exchange for supporting a procedural vote to advance the annual defense policy bill on Thursday. Ultimately, with Greene's support, the rule passed 215 to 211.

Greene immediately responded and accused the Texas Republican of weakening her legislation to “continue the trans agenda for children.”

Roy argued that his amendment narrowing the scope of Greene's bill would make it more likely that the measure would pass the Senate and become law.
