Former PlayStation chief Shuhei Yoshida suggested that Japanese studios “cannot replicate” the speed at which games are produced in China and suggested that Chinese studios could hire more people “who can work overtime.”
In an interview with 4Gameras in translation MachineYoshida shared his impressions of Chinese industry, saying, “The speed of development in China is amazing. [and] They also change personnel quickly, and all game development work moves quickly.”
“When I spoke with miHoYo, we discussed that it would be quite difficult for Japanese developers to create games in the same way as miHoYo does. Not to mention the legal problems that may arise from this,” Yoshida said.
“I wonder if there are some aspects [of the development process] which Japanese game developers simply cannot replicate. One of the reasons why games are so strong in China is that they are created in an environment that allows them to employ large numbers of staff capable of working long hours.
“Of course, you never know what might happen in the near future, but looking at the current state of things, I think this is the most important factor.”
Last month, a number of Japanese publishers, including Bandai Namco, Enix Squareand others have come together under CODA (Overseas Content Distribution Association) to demand that Open AI stop teaching the AI video creation tool Sora 2 on their collective creative works.
Open AI Statement made public in a statement published on the CODA websiterequires that the work of CODA members not be used for machine learning without prior permission.
