Fox Sports has replaced Mark Sanchez in its coverage of the Seattle Seahawks and will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
Sanchez will be replaced by three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth, who will work alongside commentator Chris Myers.
News comes like Sanchez he faces criminal charges in connection with an incident last weekend that left him hospitalized with stab wounds. Sanchez, a former NFL defensive end who played for the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles, was involved in a confrontation with 69-year-old truck driver Perry Toal early Saturday morning. Tole, who was left with a deep gash to his face, said he feared for his life during the incident and sprayed pepper spray and stabbed Sanchez. According to police, the incident occurred after a dispute over a parking space.
Sanchez, 38, faces up to six years in prison if convicted of battery. Tole also filed a lawsuit against Sanchez, and his lawyers said their client suffered “serious permanent disfigurement, loss of function” and emotional distress.
“We're literally talking about people fighting over a parking space and/or an argument about where people park, resulting in someone suffering just incredibly serious injuries,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said Monday.
Fox Sports has yet to discuss Sanchez's long-term future with the network. The Jets selected Sanchez fifth overall in 2009. NFL project after he had a successful college career in his native California. He led the Jets to two AFC Championship games before working with several teams, including the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. He announced his retirement from the NFL in 2019 and soon after began working on college football coverage for ESPN before moving to Fox.
