Former Texas star and NFL wide receiver Jordan Shipley is being treated in the hospital after suffering serious burns in an accident at his ranch near his hometown of Burnet, Texas.

According to a statement from his family, Shipley was driving the car when it caught fire. Although the 40-year-old man was able to free himself from the car, “it was only then that he suffered serious burns on his body.” read the statement. “He was able to reach one of his ranch hands, who took him to a local hospital. He was then airlifted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.”

Shipley earned Associated Press All-America honors with the Longhorns in 2009. In college, he had 248 career catches for 3,191 yards and 33 touchdowns. He also ran for Texas, representing the college in the 100 and 200 meters.

Shipley was drafted in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by Cincinnati and had 79 receptions for 858 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons with the Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He officially retired from the NFL in 2014.

His brother Jackson, who also had a brief NFL Career, said his brother's main risk is infection and pneumonia.

Shipley is married and has two sons. After his retirement, he appeared on Longhorns television broadcasts and also worked with his father and brother in real estate in Texas.
