Former Battlefield 6 developer slams EA for leaving himself and other Ridgeline staff out of the credits

Former Ridgeline Games executive and Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto has spoken out against reducing the representation of some of Ridgeline's old colleagues in Battlefield 6noting that some of them were “completely left out” despite their years of work laying the “foundation” for EA's new version. FPS.

Ridgelines once played a central role in Battlefield 6. Back in 2022, they were Creators of Battlefield's Next Single Player Campaign Announcedshe was drinking turn them off during the mass layoffs in February 2024, when some of Ridgeline's employees were transferred to another Battlefield studio, Ripple Effect.

“I'm disappointed that many of my former teammates at Ridgeline Games were not properly mentioned in the recent release of Battlefield 6,” Lehto wrote in a blog post. yesterday's post on LinkedIn.

“These talented developers worked tirelessly for 1 to 2.5 years creating the core of the game before I voluntarily left and the studio subsequently closed,” he continued. “Despite their significant contributions, most of those fired were relegated to the “Special Thanks” section at the very end of the credits, and some were omitted entirely, including me.

“Out of respect for my colleagues and the amazing work they put into this project, I want to take a moment to properly recognize them – listing their names and roles as I would prefer them to appear in the credits. Game development is a team effort, and everyone involved deserves fair recognition.”

In particular, Lehto cites software engineers Jessica Moore and Dan Carr, lead technical artist Rohan Naki, and lead character artist Andres Naranjo as being unfairly overlooked. He considers himself the studio's vice president, general manager and franchise director. Here's a video of the full official BF6 credits for context.

Incomplete lending to developers one of the constant evils this affects big budget games. Developers can work on a game for the better part of a decade and leave without proper name checks because they left or were fired before the game was released. External participants and people in certain, devalued areas of game creation. more likely to be left out. Sometimes the threat of credit denial is used as a bludgeon to prevent people from leaving jobs they hate.

With that said, it's worth noting that Lehto's reading of the Battlefield 6 credits is a bit sketchy. As he admits in the comments to this LinkedIn post, three of the people he says EA didn't mention are actually quoted elsewhere in the credits.
