It was reported earlier this week That chapter Assassin's Creed Marc-Alexis Côté has left Ubisoft after turning down an offer to take up a senior position at the company. newly created subsidiary which is partly owned by Tencent and is called Vantage Studios.
Cote issued his own statement regarding LinkedIn clarifying that he “didn't leave” and “Ubisoft asked me to step aside.”
He headed Assassin's Creed franchise since 2022, but before that he co-directed the 2012 film. Assassin's Creed III and creative director in 2014 Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. He has produced every song since 2014.
Read Kote's message below:
The last 24 hours have been very emotional. Reading all your public and private messages has reminded me of many moments, people, and shared dreams over the past two decades.
I archived them all so that one day, when I'm old, I can come back to them and smile at what we built together.
A recurring theme has emerged from posts from colleagues, friends and fans that I feel the need to clarify.
Many of you expressed surprise that I decided to leave Assassin's Creed after all these years, especially considering the passion I still have for the game. The truth is simple: I did not make this choice.
Ubisoft has decided to hand over leadership of the Assassin's Creed franchise to someone closer to its new organizational structure. Another position was mentioned, but it did not have the same scope, mandate or continuity compared to the work I have been assigned in recent years.
I want to make it clear that I have no hard feelings. Ubisoft has been my home throughout my professional life, and I will always be grateful to the people, the projects and the belief that together we can create worlds that inspire millions.
But I also owe it to my teams, past and present, to be clear: I have not quit. I remained at my post until Ubisoft asked me to step aside.
As someone who grew up inspired by Star Trek (TNG!), in the later years of my career I began to see myself as the captain of an Assassin's Creed ship, a man who only leaves when every soul on board is safe. And that's exactly what I did for as long as I could.
Thanks again for your messages of support. They mean more to me than you can imagine.
