The latest Heat revealed a new gameplay trailer for Fleet Breakers, the fast-paced Roguelite RTS formerly known as Project Citadel, along with a remastered game currently live on Steam.
Developed by industry veterans Dave Pottinger (Age of EmpiresIN Age of Mythology), Jason Sallenbach (Oreological warsIN Fury 2) and Yohan Sengamalai (Halo 3IN Alan Wake), Fleet Breakers combines the intensity of Roguelike combat with the strategic depth of a classic real-time strategy game. The game condenses the scale and decision-making of a Grand RTS into short, high-stakes battles where every choice matters.
Players take on the role of a young commander leading an exciting rebel faction against the Voltari, a tyrannical galactic empire. The campaign unfolds across the vast Starmap, where every move, whether expanding colonies, participating in battles, or responding to industry events, shapes the course of the war. Every decision triggers dynamic enemy reactions, forcing players to adapt their tactics and outsmart Voltari at every turn.
When it's time for action, players can assemble their fleet from a diverse cast of ships, each with unique roles and abilities. Battles take place in procedurally generated encounters where players must balance resource management, positioning, and reinforcements to reclaim territory across the galaxy. Exploration, character interaction, and new technologies further deepen the experience as the rebellion progresses.
Originally intended for a 2025 release, Fleetbreakers is now scheduled to launch in Early Access in the first quarter of 2026. “Fleetbreakers is a bit of a return to our roots, as well as an opportunity to bring something fresh and new to the strategy genre,” said Last Keep CEO Dave Pottinger, speaking on the project and its development. “RTS games are experiencing a resurgence, and now is the time to show a new generation why we love them so much.”
