Final Fantasy XIV Online Director Drops New Hint About Nintendo Release

Final Fantasy XIV Online may be on its way

Final Fantasy XIV Online director Naoki Yoshida has once again hinted at the long-discussed possibility of an MMORPG coming to the Nintendo platform. During a New Year's Q&A with fans, Yoshida was asked about the game's chances of coming to Switch systems. In response, he reportedly said that players should “please look forward to it” renewing speculation about a future release.

This isn't the first time Yoshida has openly talked about bringing Final Fantasy XIV to Nintendo hardware. Over the past few years, he has repeatedly acknowledged interest in expanding the game beyond current platforms. In June 2024, Yoshida suggested that Nintendo's next-generation hardware would be better suited for MMORPGs, pointing to a potential Switch successor as a more realistic goal.

Further momentum followed in August 2025, when Yoshida reported at Gamescom that Square Enix and Nintendo had already held positive discussions regarding a possible port. While these comments suggested behind-the-scenes progress, he also made it clear that nothing had reached the official announcement stage.

Currently, Final Fantasy XIV Online remains unavailable on any Nintendo systems, and Square Enix has not confirmed development of the Switch or its successor. However, Yoshida's continued references suggest that the idea is still alive.

For now, Enix Square concentrates his attention on something else. The company is preparing to release Remake of Final Fantasy VII Intergrade for Switch 2 later this month, highlighting its growing commitment to Nintendo platforms while keeping the door open for Final Fantasy XIV in the future.
