Fido brings back 10GB of bonus data, although it still isn’t worth it

Fido has returned a bonus of 10 GB of additional data in some Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) plans to attract customers who want to switch from their current provider.

The Rogers-owned brand now offers the following plans with an additional 10GB:

  • $45/10GB + 10GB 4G, Unlimited Talk/Text Canada Across, 500 International Texts
  • $50/40GB + 10GB 4G, Unlimited Talk/Text Canada Across, 500 International Texts
  • $55/60GB + 10GB 4G, Unlimited Call/Text Canada Across, 1,000 International Texts

Another bonus of these plans is that they are also eligible for a $0 hotspot benefit, which Fido was brought back in August. However, this can hardly be called a bonus if the company initially removed a useful feature in order to make quick money. Additionally, Fido recently raised roaming tariffs And connection fee up to $80 (although it does override this if you register online).

If you look beyond Fido, you'll find better deals elsewhere. Freedom Mobile offers plans such as the 5G Canada-US-Mexico + Roam Beyond plan worth 39/60GB with 5GB of data in more than 120 destinations. There's also a 49GB/80GB 5G Canada-US-Mexico + Roam Beyond plan that includes 15GB of data and unlimited talk/text to over 120 destinations.

There are also great options from Telus-owned public mobile network including a 40/60GB Canada-US-Mexico 5G unlimited talk and text plan that also includes unlimited international text and picture messaging. Public also has a 50/80GB Canada-US-Mexico 5G unlimited talk and text plan.

To sum it up, Fido's plans, even with bonus data, don't really offer much value. If you are looking for a new plan and don't know who to choose with, you can use MobileSyrup's plan search tool to find the best offer.
