The order of the doctors of Quebec says that he is concerned about the professional independence of veterinarians and the availability for caring for all animals in response to a “temporary” clinic of several clinics in the Daubigny group.

Last week, Newspaper He showed that almost a dozen clinics in the Daubigny group – the largest veterinary conglomerate in Quebec – temporarily closed its doors in recent months, causing difficulties in recruiting staff.
Former employees indicated that the situation was quite related to its culture of profit and overload of work.
“We are concerned about all this. When we are talking about the accessibility of veterinary assistance, this is one of the main elements of the mission of public protection of professional order, ”leading Gaston Riu, President of the Order of Veterinary Doctors of Quebec (OMVQ).
Unfortunately, OMVQ does not have the right to intervene with large groups, which significantly limits its strength in the situation.
For several years, thanks to the Interprofessional Council of Quebec (CIQ), OMVQ is working on a change in the situation, conducting a campaign to change legislation and rules and, thus, will convince the government to modernize professional laws. This is already visible in Europe.
“This is a speech that we will continue to wear,” says Dleading Riu. In France, they can even go so far as to clean large companies and clinics. We cannot do it here. “
Currently, the only power of OMVQ intervention is with veterinarians.
I recommend access to medical care
The Daubigny group united several years ago with Vetstrategy, a large supplier of veterinary aid in Canada, owned by IVC Evidensia, the largest player in Europe in terms of veterinary assistance.
Abroad, conflicts between multinational and veterinary orders made headlines for several years.
The aspect of professional independence of veterinarians is also based on debate.
Clients are obviously the costs associated with convicted care, which is also for OMVQ.
“We ask the public to make reports whether there were problems with the level of emergency situations, services, veterinary doctors and [des problèmes liés à] Professional independence, ”adds OMVQ president.
He also believes that veterinary clinics should recommend financial accessibility to care, adapt to customers and the opportunity to offer them several options.
“We do not want the owner of the animal to arrive at the veterinary institution and that he is offered an inflated price that leads to the euthanasia of the animal,” DD endsleading Riu.
