Larry Wahpistikwan told CBC News his son Neil was shot and killed early Tuesday morning.
“We came from Moon Lake to dance and we were getting ready to go to bed when my brother called me and said my son had been shot,” Wahpistikwan told CBC News. “They killed him.”
Wahpistikwan claims the RCMP were already on the scene and attempted CPR but were unable to save his son's life. Others were also shot and taken to hospital, he said.
Seven health facilities in the area were on lockdown as of 11 a.m. CST Tuesday, according to a statement from the Saskatchewan government.
“We are aware of a serious incident that occurred early this morning on Big Island Lake Cree. Our thoughts are with the community and all those affected,” the statement said.
