Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly follows twin sisters Mayu and Mio as they become lost in an abandoned village infested with vengeful undead. Using a camera obscura, they will fight for their lives and unravel the mystery of what happened to the small town. Camera Obscura's gameplay has been completely redesigned from the ground up to make it smoother and more modern. The biggest addition to gameplay is the ability for the sisters to hold hands, allowing them to stay close to each other while exploring the claustrophobic environment, as well as updated sound design for added immersion.
The Fatal Frame series is no stranger to HD treatment. Fatal Shot: Lunar Eclipse Mask finally received a Western release on modern platforms in 2023 after launching exclusively in Japan in 2008. If you want to experience this version of the first Fatal Frame before the Fatal Frame II remake, PC players can purchase the game for just $42.25 (up from $50) at Fanatical.
