‘Family Matters’ actor Darius McCrary under fugitive arrest, held without bail – National

Actor Darius McCrary was arrested earlier this month at the U.S.-Mexico border by the U.S. Border Patrol on an out-of-state felony warrant and is currently being held in the San Diego Jail without bond.

McCrary, best known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the sitcom. Family mattershas not yet been convicted and is not eligible for release. He was arrested on October 5.

According to his online booking, it was an “arrest of a fugitive.” documents received by people. The San Diego court website lists McCrary as a defendant in an open criminal case.

The 49-year-old actor was taken into custody at the San Diego border between the United States and Mexico on an outstanding warrant for missing a court appearance in Michigan for failure to pay child support. Entertainment Weekly Reports.

McCrary's first trial date is set for Oct. 15.

The actor's representative, Anne Barlow, said in a statement that “he did not know he had a warrant at the time, otherwise he would have taken care of it.”

“He was going to Tijuana, Mexico, in partnership with a developer who was building homes for the homeless in Tijuana. Mr. McCrary was there to show support and light to the homeless,” she continued.


“The failure to appear in court that resulted in the warrant being issued only occurred because Oakland County sent a Notice to Appear to his mailbox, giving him only three days to appear in court.”

Barlow said McCrary didn't check his mailbox as often as usual because he was sick.

She argued that when McCrary opened the notice, he had already missed the date, and she argued that “the judge was immediately notified by a doctor's note that he had COVID.”

McCrary has faced legal battles over the years involving his ex-wife Tammy Browner. In February 2019, McCrary nearly finalized his divorce from Browner. according to people.

In the divorce decree, Browner, a former Harlem Globetrotters player, was given full legal and physical custody of the former couple's daughter, Zoe.

McCrary was ordered to attend alcohol and drug abuse and batterer intervention courses for 12 months and must enroll in and complete a series of parenting classes. He was also ordered to submit to two random drug tests within 60 days of sentencing.

Browner filed for divorce from McCrary in March 2017, citing irreconcilable differences.

In those court documents, Browner reflected on one specific incident in which she claims McCrary held their daughter over a pot of boiling water and said he wished he had never had her.

Browner also stated that the actor often spanked their daughter and sometimes tied her hands during meals.

She also recalled the incident that prompted her to get the restraining order: She said that on Feb. 10, 2017, McCrary began throwing photo frames and other items around the house, some of which came dangerously close to hitting his then-infant daughter. She also accused him of hitting her in the head with his forearm.

Browner argued that McCrary regularly drank and used drugs and became violent when intoxicated.

The judge then ruled in Browner's favor, ordering McCrary to leave the family home and stay at least 300 feet away from her and their daughter.
