Prolific role-playing game developer Tim Kane, who has credits on everything from Fallout and Arcanum to Vampire: The Masquerade and The Outer Worlds, has come out of semi-retirement to rejoin the team. Obsidian Entertainment.
Cain revealed this in his new YouTube video. “I'm back at Obsidian,” he said. “I am their full-time employee and work in person, so not remotely. I'm no longer a contractor. That means I'm not working elsewhere,” although he does mention that there are several non-Obsidian games he's contracted to develop that may or may not see the light of day in the future.
“I also can’t talk about the project I’m working on at Obsidian just because it’s under a non-disclosure agreement,” Kane continued. “Don’t try to guess, you won’t guess right.” This last part probably rules out the possibility of Fallout: New Vegas 2, since Obsidian developers know how much you want them to continue.
However, Cain went on to say that he is “much less retired now than he used to be.” He just returned to Xbox Game Studios team for about a week, mind you. Although, he said, that was enough time to get a tattoo of the Moonman from Outer Worlds 2 after the game's launch party.
The RPG icon, of course, has a long history with Obsidian, working full-time from 2011 to 2020. He directed the first The Outer Worlds and returned as a creative consultant for this year's sequel.
And, for those curious, his informative YouTube channel dedicated to behind-the-scenes stories of game developers will continue. At least for now, no one was asking him to stop.
