Factorio Is Getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Updated version of Factorio

Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 with a new edition offering a free update for existing owners. Originally released on Switch in 2022, the game will now take advantage of the improved Switch 2 hardware. For players who don't already own the game, the paid package will include both the base game and an upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition.

The updated version contains several visual and performance improvements. The game will run at native 1080p screen resolution, and supports up to 4K (2160p) resolution when connected. Variable refresh rate support ensures smoother gameplay, and some higher-quality animations and sprites improve the overall visual experience. Loading times are reduced and the game allows players to build significantly larger bases. Additionally, Switch 2 Edition includes support for Mouse Mode, allowing players to use the left or right Joy-Con as a mouse using the console's Joy-Con mouse sensor.

Factorio: Space Age will also be released on Switch 2 as DLC, priced at $35 USD or regional equivalent. Content will reflect what is available on the PC version. Although the developers are planning to release Switch 2 Edition and Space Age by December, this is not an official date yet. Release schedule updates will be posted once confirmed.

For players interested in the development process, the creators have documented Journey on Switch 2 on the official Factorio blog. Additional Space Age anniversary information is also available there, providing insight into the ongoing evolution of this popular building and management game on Nintendo's latest console.

Factorio is also available on PC via Steam, so be sure to check it out.
