Here are three worthwhile shows on Prime Video to watch this weekend.

1

Ballard

Maggie Q, Boschtops this police procedural with a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audience ratings aren't far behind either.

Spin-off of the popular Prime Video series Bosch, Ballard follows the detective in charge of running the LAPD's new cold case unit, which is, of course, poorly funded and made up of volunteers. As Det. Ballard (Q) works with his team to investigate the city's long-forgotten crimes. She also hunts a brutal serial killer and uncovers a police conspiracy that challenges her principles and desire for justice. Plus, you know that our heroine is struggling with her own personal demons and past traumas, and she will no doubt struggle even more as she tries to uncover the truth.

There's a lot of mystery, give or take, in the season's ten 45-minute episodes. Additionally, it has a solid cast including Bosch star Titus Welliver, who reprises his role as a volunteer on Ballard's team, John Carroll Lynch, Big sky, VocationMichael Moseley, Rebecca Field, All climbsVictoria Moroles (English)Never I Never) and Amy Hill, 2018 Magnum PI.

Night sky

Night sky is one of Prime Video's most underrated and overlooked films. sci-fi showswhich is unfortunate because it has a spicy time travel plot that will appeal to fans of the genre.

Starring heavy hitters JK Simmons and Sissy Spacek as Franklin and Irene York, our narrative follows a couple living out their golden years together, tucked away on their small farm in Illinois. At their core, they look like an ordinary couple from a sleepy town, but they're hiding a secret so great that it could turn their quiet little world into a dangerous breeding ground for teleporters and time travelers with nefarious intentions. Buried in their backyard is a room that miraculously leads to a desert planet, and when a stranger appears with time-traveling trinkets covered in someone else's blood, they suspect he may be “on the other side of the glass.”

An eight-episode, one-season show is a bit of a slow burn, but it's necessary for a narrative of this magnitude. The timing and pacing must be deliberate, and it is. Where Night sky Where Prime Video differs from other sci-fi series is its lack of visual effects, so don't expect a ton of planetscapes and galactic vistas here. It's a more nuanced story, full of character depth and storylines spanning multiple generations, and you'll have to care about the outcome of those characters' storylines.

Nice place

Nice place Kristen Bell plays Eleanor Shellstrop, a young saleswoman who, when she dies, is mistakenly sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place she was meant to go to.

She is relieved and surprised until she learns that a mistake has been made and she must end up in the Bad Place. Hoping to change her ways and open a new path in the afterlife, Eleanor decides to hide in plain sight from The Good Place's architect Michael (Ted Danson), who has yet to realize his mistake, and his all-knowing assistant Janet (D'Arcy Carden). Nobody wants this).

Kristen Bell gives a hilariously entertaining performance as a self-absorbed, foul-mouthed, morally corrupt jerk who sees no room for change. One of the things I love about her character is that she is so foul-mouthed. In the Good Place you can try to swear, but nothing will come of it. The F-word is her best friend, but here, every time she uses it, it comes out like “fork.”

It's moments like these, interspersed with genuine friendship, that make him one of the funniest sitcoms century, and I'll be honest: Kristen Bell is keeping the hype going all the way. The other actors are great, too, but she's a stone thrown into a pond that sends out emotional—or effective, depending on how you look at it—ripples. The Good Place also features performances ResortWilliam Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil (She-Hulk: Lawyer) and Manny Jacinto from Novice.
