- Microsoft confirms “update and shutdown” causing computer to reboot was a bug
- The latest preview fixes an issue that has long plagued Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems.
- Unfortunately, the preview version that fixes the problem contains a task manager bug that eats up system resources.
It's another week, and another focus on Microsoft's Windows 11 errors, shortly after users noticed the optional Pre-Update 25H2 and Task Manager Error – but this problem has existed for many years in two different Windows operating systems and finally Microsoft has solved it.
According to TweekTownMicrosoft has fixed a bug that caused computers to reboot when selecting the “update and shutdown” prompt, which was confirmed in the October 28 Supplemental Preview patch notes (KB5067036), which lists this as a “major issue”.
All over Windows 10 And Windows 11 systems I've used, none of them have In fact updated and shut down on demand and always ended up restarting – to the point that it forced me to resort to a direct shutdown with the power button. It's kind of funny because the “update and restart” option always appeared, but it's essentially deprecated.
This was one of the most well-known bugs among the many problems encountered with new Microsoft Windows updates, and it was a source of concern. Windows 10 and 11 years ago, leaving most users wondering why this happened. There's still no clarity on the cause, but what's important is that Microsoft says it's no longer there, and I'll be sure to check that next time an update comes out.
However, before you jump to the preview version of this fix, you may want to hold your horses as this is the same preview version that has a new Task Manager bug; It should be noted that the Task Manager remains open in the background when closed, which ultimately increases CPU and memory usage, so it's best to stay away until Microsoft fixes this in the stable version.
Analysis: This is one of the many annoying bugs in Windows 11, but I'm glad Microsoft fixed it.
Microsoft and its Windows 11 operating system This has literally been one of the most frustrating user experiences I've ever had due to unexplained errors, but for now I'm just glad this long-running update and shutdown issue is finally resolved.
However, unfortunately, it doesn't end there; Game performance is another matter, now that we've seen many games run at higher frame rates on SteamOS, the same can be said for system and crash errors. I've lost count of the number of times my system has frozen while gaming, simply while multitasking, or encountered Bluetooth audio device issues that prevented me from selecting output due to constant flickering.
I could go on and on about these issues, but my only hope is that Microsoft can fix bugs like this quickly – and judging by how long it took to resolve the update and shutdown issue, it's hard to tell what you'll get in terms of ETA with Microsoft's patches.
