Eric Dane, known for his roles in Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria, has announced a memoir called The Book of Days.
NEW YORK — Memoirs of Eric Dane, “Grey's Anatomy” And ” Euphoria” actor who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, will be published next year.
Dane's book, The Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments, will be published by Maria Shriver Open field, imprint of a random penguin house. According to Open Field, Dane will remember key moments in his life, from his first day working on Grey's Anatomy to the birth of his two daughters and learning he has ALS.
“I wake up every morning and am immediately reminded that this is the reality of this disease, this challenge, and that is why I am writing this book,” Dane, 53, said in a statement published Monday by The Open Field. “I want to capture the moments that shaped me—the great days, the hard days, the ones I never took for granted—so that people who read this will remember what it means to live from the heart. If sharing this helps someone find meaning in their days, then my story is worth telling.”
ALS is a progressive disease that gradually destroys the nerve cells and connections needed to walk, talk, speak and breathe. Most patients die within three to five years of diagnosis. When Dane announced his diagnosis in April, he said he would return to Euphoria, which was set to begin production on its third season around the same time.
“Eric wants to give his daughters and family something to be proud of, and this book will not only make them proud,” Shriver said in a statement, “but it will also help people understand what ALS is and isn't, what happens to a person once they have it, and how we can all be compassionate partners for people living with these neurological diseases.”
