Epic announces partnership to bring Unity games into Fortnite

Epic Games and Unity have announced a major partnership that will allow developers to publish Unity games to Fortnite.

As announced today during Unite's annual developer conference, this collaboration will also allow Unity to bring Unreal Engine support to its platform.

Early next year, developers will also be able to “manage pricing, promotions and live operations” using Unreal.

Additional information and product release dates will be published in 2026.

“We are excited to partner with Epic Games to create more opportunities for game developers around the world,” said Unity President and CEO Matt Bromberg.

“Choice and open systems drive growth for everyone in the gaming ecosystem.”

Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney added: “Just as at the dawn of the Internet, we believe companies need to work together to build an open metaverse that is interoperable and fair.

“By working together with Unity, we are helping developers create engaging games, reach wider audiences, and achieve success.”

Talking to EdgeSweeney said the partnership will “significantly expand the developer base.”

He also explained that a review will be conducted to see if Fortnite uses tools from either engine.

“As this becomes a completely open system, we will only have reviews of the content that we post,” Sweeney explained.

“Anyone will be able to put anything anywhere, and people will be able to view it like you do today in a web browser.”
