Emmy winning Shōgun director joins Amazon’s live-action God of War series

The Amazon team working on the God of War game series is expanding.

According to DeadlineEmmy Award-winning director Frederic E.O. Toy will direct the first two episodes of the upcoming God of War series.

During his extensive career, Toy has worked on a number of acclaimed shows, including Westworld, The Boys and The Walking Dead. He's also no stranger to video game adaptations, having also directed episodes of the Amazon series Fallout.

Last year, Toy won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the ninth episode of Shogun's historical drama “Crimson Sky.”

The director joins showrunner and former Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore on Amazon's God of War series. Moore was not always involved in the God of War TV show, only joining the project at the end of last year after departure of the original team. Despite the shake-up, PlayStation Productions' Assad Kizilbash, Carter Swan, Sony's Hermen Hulst, Vertigo's Roy Lee and, of course, Sony Santa Monica head Cory Barlog remain involved with the project. Santa Monica's Jeff Ketcham is also co-executive producer of Amazon's God of War adaptation.

The show is currently in pre-production in Vancouver, and casting has begun for the God of War series. Do you have any thoughts on who might play whom?

Meanwhile, although we still don't have a release window for the first season, The second season of God of War has already been greenlit on Amazon. To quote Kratos: “Boy!”
