““Emily in Paris” season 5 trailer finds Emily Cooper happily in love in Rome, and leaves viewers wondering if her best friend Mindy Chen is exploring a new, albeit unexpected, romance in the Eternal City.
At the beginning of the trailer, Mindy, played by Ashley Park, can be seen having lunch at a restaurant with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), Emily's ex. Things then seem to heat up as the pair dance and nearly lock lips later in the short clip.
Interviewing stars Park and Lily Collins in Venice for a segment airing December 15, TODAY correspondent Jill Martin asked what's going on between Alfie and Mindy, who split from her boyfriend Nicholas (Paul Foreman) at the end of season 4.
“Ashley, it looks like you're going to make out with him in the trailer,” Martin noted during their conversation.
“What makes you think we’re going to kiss?” – Puck asked mischievously.
“It was very close,” Martin replied.
Viewers will have to wait until Season 5 premieres on Netflix on December 18 to find out if Mindy and Alfie are romantically involved and how Emily will react to the pairing. But in the meantime, Park offered the following teaser:
“I also think they have a great friendship and that's what we see,” she said, adding that the couple was dancing so it was natural that they were physically close to each other.
“It’s hot,” added Collins, who plays Emily.
“Hot dancing,” Puck said.
What happened between Emily and Alfie?
Alfie first appeared in the second season of Emily in Paris when he met Emily during French class. The couple didn't immediately bond, but they soon hit it off as expats in Paris (Alfie is from London).
Romance quickly blossomed and the couple really seemed to hit it off. They soon had to decide whether they were ready for a long-distance romance when Alfie announced he had to return to London for work.
Alfie stayed in Paris when he found a job with Antoine (William Abadie). Since his relationship with Emily was a little rocky, he didn't tell her he was staying right away.
Emily and Alfie tried again but eventually broke up. Season 3 after the failed wedding of Camille (Camille Razat) and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).
During the ceremony, Camilla stated that she could not marry Gabriel because he was in love with Emily. It was too hard for Alfie and he said he didn't want to be Emily's second choice.
In season four, Emily and Alfie considered getting back together, but she ended up pursuing her relationship with Gabriel. When they broke up, Emily ran into Alfie and was devastated to learn he had a new girlfriend. Emily later began dating an Italian named Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).
