AN ELDERLY woman missing for months has been found abandoned in her wheelchair on a dirt road in Mexico – 200 miles from her home.
Nilda Perales Ramos, believed to be in her 90s, appeared heavily sedated and was showing signs of hypothermia when she was discovered.
Emergency services received anonymous Information about a man who was found unconscious near a rural road in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, December 17.
Mexican Red Cross paramedics found a woman lying in a wheelchair without cover and completely exposed rain and a sharp drop in temperature.
The grueling conditions and suspected sedation meant the woman showed signs of hypothermia and severe dehydration.
She received emergency assistance on the spot and was then transported to the hospital. General Hospital Matamoros by Dr. Alfredo Pumarejo, where she remains under medical supervision.
Hospital Director Gerardo Garcia Salinas said she woke up and was conscious enough to remember her name.
She introduced herself as Nilda Perales Ramos, originally from Laredo, in the US state Texas and told investigators that she had no loved ones family.
It was later discovered that friends and family in Laredo had been searching for her for five months.
It is reported that Nilda, who is about 90 years old, crossed the border Mexico On June 12 and later he was hospitalized.
While she was in hospital her friends and relatives have lost contact.
Authorities are currently investigating whether she had a guardian and how she ended up alone on the street.
