Strong demand for tickets to Sunday's record $2 million 50/50 Gray Cup stunned the lottery provider and prompted repeat purchases for some customers, according to the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation.
Drawing of the winning numbers is being delayed until the provider can figure out which tickets are legitimate and even out the 50/50 split, the fund said in a statement.
By the end of Gray Cup play on Sunday night, the 50/50 bet had reached $2,005,107, with the winner taking home half the pot. This is the largest prize in a single 50/50 game in CFL history.
“The surge in traffic resulted in a small percentage of customers being charged multiple times,” the fund said.
The fund said it affected a “small percentage” of people who bought tickets and all re-payments will be refunded.
It is not yet known how repeat orders will affect the total prize amount or when the drawing will take place.
The Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation is the team's charitable organization that supports education, health and amateur football initiatives in the province.
