There is only one episode left in the series “Stranger Things” Universe, anything can happen.
Season 5 Netflix's hit supernatural show is keeping fans on their toes, emotionally preparing themselves for heartache.
Over the course of Stranger Things' five seasons, the series has seen several tragic deaths, including Barbara “Barb” Holland, Bob Newby, and Eddie Munson.
So what's ahead The Season 5 finale in Vol. 3creators Matt and Ross Duffer, known as Duffer brothersdispel fan speculation that characters will die.
“Oh man… I don't know what I would have told them,” Ross Duffer told TODAY.com. “I mean, obviously it's an emotional ending to the show for a number of factors. But I don't want to say too much.”
So far at the end of Vol. 2, not a single main character has been sacrificed yet. But they face a dangerous battle with Vecna.
“I want people to prepare for the finale,” continues Ross Duffer. “But I can promise you that this is not a Red Wedding situation like in Game of Thrones.” We're not going to kill eight of our characters.”
Matt Duffer adds that they “don't do anything for shock value.”
“It will be easier to talk about when it comes out,” he added.
Rumors are swirling that fan favorite Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery, will die. The actors expressed their opinion on some fan theories, which Maya Hawke spoke about in an interview Hollywood Reporter that she had seen fans say that if Steve died they would be heartbroken.
Others ridiculed this theory.
“What if it was just his hair dying?” Millie Bobby Brown said. “Dad comes back, shaves his hair. Steve is the new Eleven, and actually the death of a huge, main character is Steve Harrington's hair.”
When asked how they wanted the series finale, which is streaming on Netflix and in theaters December 31st. — To get fans feeling, the Duffer Brothers tell TODAY.com they're not sure.
“It's hard to say,” says Matt Duffer. “I'm very curious to see how they'll react. I'm not really sure. I imagine they'll feel something that we and the actors felt, which is a really confusing mix of emotions.”
They hope that the ending feels “inevitable” and that it is “the right ending and the right time to end the story and they will understand it.”
However, he notes, “There's something very sad and bittersweet about saying goodbye to these characters and this particular storyline.”
They also hope that among the “big bag of emotions” there is some level of satisfaction.
“At least it's based on our experience… the ending and the actors' experience,” he added.
