- Dropbox is bringing Dash to its own cloud storage platform
- It already works with Slack, Canva and other services.
- Availability is still limited as users will have to join a waitlist.
Dropbox is adding more of its own Dash AI features into the main application and interface to make it easier for workers to find what they need.
Launched in 2023 as a universal search bar that connects to third-party apps like Slack, Canva, and Google Workspace, Dash will now support smarter search, summaries, and contextual replies in files stored in Dropbox.
The progress doesn't stop there, as Dropbox has promised to soon add multimodal search that will support search across video, audio, and images, thanks to a partnership with Mobius Labs.
Dropbox Dash AI is coming to… Dropbox
In fact, it was a natural move for Dropbox to bring its AI tool to its own platform, although no one expected it to take this long—and you'll need to join the waitlist for early access at this point.
The company stated that 95% Artificial Intelligence Tools fail because they lack context between apps, so perhaps building third-party support was a priority so that when Dash launches on Dropbox, it becomes even more powerful.
“It's like having an AI teammate who really understands you and your team,” Dropbox said.
There are two ways to access Dash: first, it's an easy-to-set-up app designed to handle disparate and disparate content, and second, there's a new integration with Dropbox.
At the same time, Dropbox also announced a new Dash MCP server, which means MCP-compatible apps like Claude, Cursor, and Goose can access search functionality from their own interfaces.
“Whether you're writing an email or reviewing code, the answers and ideas you need are always at your fingertips with Dash,” the company wrote.
Currently, the Dash app is only available to teams in the US and only in English, but a Dropbox plan is not required. Wider access to Dash on Dropbox will be coming “in the coming months.”
