Dragon Quest fans can get Square Enix's HD-2D remakes of the first three main games in the iconic RPG series at the best prices. Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake up to $40 off (was $60) on Nintendo Switch And Switch 2 at Amazon and Target. PS5 And Xbox editions can be purchased for $50, which is also a record low for these platforms. With the two-game collection releasing on October 30th, we don't expect the $40 deals to stick around for long.
You can complete the original trilogy by picking up Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake for 35 US dollars Switch 1/2 or PS5; That Xbox edition is a few dollars cheaper on Amazon. Like all Square Enix Switch 2 games, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is a Game-Key Card and requires 17GB to download. If you're concerned, the Nintendo Switch version contains the full game on the card and can be played in its entirety on Nintendo's new console.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake received positive reviews from critics; he has 84 Metascore on GameSpot's sister site Metacritic. Like Square's other HD-2D remakes, the first two Dragon Quest games look and run great on all platforms. Updated visuals are supported by a new orchestral soundtrack. Square Enix has made a lot of nice changes to the gameplay to give players more customization options. You'll also find new dungeons, meet new characters, and see a more cohesive story unfold between the two games and DQIII. The first game is still a solo adventure for the Hero, but a new playable character in the sequel gives you the option to form a “modern four-person party.”
If you're in the mood for a couple of completely retro turn-based RPGs that don't feel like a full-time job, this collection is worth checking out. Dragon Quest I can be completed in 10-15 hours, and the sequel in about 20 hours.

Unlike Dragon Quest I and II, this game has an update for the Nintendo Switch 2 that improves the visuals and overall performance. The Switch 2 update can be downloaded for free from the eShop.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake concludes Square Enix's Erdrick Trilogy, also known as the Roto/Loto Trilogy, a remake project that began last year with Dragon Quest III. The remakes were released in this order because the third numbered entry actually takes place before DQ1. So if you're looking to try classic Dragon Quest for the first time, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is a great place to start.
Dragon Quest III was the first game in the series to introduce a job system that emphasized working alongside your companions as a real group. It's also a much larger game with more places to explore and a longer runtime; It takes about the same amount of time to win DQIII as it does to beat the first two games combined.
