Dr. Dre blamed the Republicans. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday for copyright infringement after she used an instrumental portion of his song “Still DRE” in a video posted on Twitter.
Almost two minutes videowhich has now been deleted from Twitter, reportedly showed Greene walking through the halls of Congress in slow motion to your song. The video also shows Greene answering a phone call from “DT,” believed to be a reference to the former president. Donald Trump. On Monday, the rapper and producer's lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter, and he also issued a statement to BuzzFeed News.
“I don’t license my music to politicians, especially ones as divisive and hateful as this one,” Dre said.
Lawyers for Dre, whose legal name is Andre Young, accused Green of “misusing this work through various social media platforms to further your divisive and hateful political agenda.”
“Mr. Young has not and will never give you permission to broadcast or distribute any of his music,” reads the letter obtained by BuzzFeed News. “As a member of Congress, you might be expected to have a superficial understanding of the laws of our country. However, it is possible that the laws governing intellectual property are too arcane and not populist enough for you to really spend much time on them.”
In the letter, Dre's lawyers ask the member of Congress to “cease and cease any further unauthorized use of Andre Young's music.”
“We write because we believe that a true legislator should make laws and not break laws, especially those enshrined in the Constitution by the Founding Fathers,” the letter says.
