Jumped off second rehab story, new report says
Published
Doug Martin He was apparently suffering from some pretty serious mental health issues in the months leading up to his death…a new report claims he jumped out of a second-story window and got into a physical altercation with some police officers.
Chronicles of San Francisco made the claim in a new article published Wednesday, citing Alameda County Sheriff's Office records… reporting that Martin was placed in an involuntary psychiatric ward back in August.
According to The Chronicle, Martin checked into Tranquility Rehabilitation Center in Castro Valley in August…and they say he tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine upon arrival.
A few days into his stay – during which time the Chronicle reports he left the premises several times without permission – Martin was reportedly found dancing outside the facility… with blood on his hands.
The Chronicle reports that the executive believed he jumped from a second-story window and punched the wall of the rehab center.
Police arrived, and the SF Chronicle reports that they asked Marin if he was armed, to which he replied, “I guess” … although he didn't specify what he meant. When they allegedly attempted to search Martin, he reportedly became agitated and resisted the officer's attempt to handcuff him. At that time, officers allegedly found Martin in possession of three bags of cocaine and a 12-inch chef's knife.
The incident resulted in Martin being committed to a mental hospital for 72 hours, and the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the charges will likely be sent to prosecutors for review… but it's unclear whether anyone reviewed them before his untimely death.
We broke history… Doug passed away while in police custody after a home break-in in Auckland. Earlier in the evening, Martin's family asked authorities for “medical assistance.”
According to family members, earlier in the evening Doug became disoriented… causing him to leave the house and enter a neighbor's house a couple doors down. Oakland police said responding officers had a “brief struggle” with Martin during his arrest and he became unresponsive. He was rushed to hospital where he ultimately died.
Doug was 36.
