AI-generated images also run counter to the manipulated media policies of platforms like Twitter, but experts say the platforms do not consistently enforce those policies.
“With the recent rise of AI-powered media, it's clear that platforms are not prepared for this moment where false images and misinformation can lead to real harm,” Kayla Gogarty, deputy director of research at Media Matters for America, a nonprofit media watchdog, told BuzzFeed News. “Twitter is of particular concern because Elon Musk abandoned most content moderation on the platform, and it became difficult to determine the credibility of an account according to new tick policy”
