It's January 2026, which means conversations about food and fun have been replaced by conversations about working out, losing weight, and getting back on track. The holiday season is ending almost as soon as it began, and the new year is arriving faster than many of us would like.
This time of year is unique in that it forces many of us to question what we are doing with our lives and whether we are making better choices. We ask questions like: Am I eating too much junk food? Am I drinking too much alcohol? Can I read more books? Am I getting enough sleep?
These are important questions that underlie decisions that will help us think differently and therefore act differently. The problem is that by February, most New Year's resolutions have been abandoned. That's why we need an application like Accustom.
Home Screen Heroes
This is part of a regular series of articles highlighting apps we couldn't live without. Read them all here.
Habitify has helped over 2.5 million people develop better habits and, in turn, build better lives. Harnessing the transformative power of habits, Habitify helps you optimize your daily routine and achieve your goals. It's a powerful promise that tempts many, but how effective is it really? I'm diving into the app to see what Habitify has to offer and if it can help bring your resolutions to life.
Individual habits
Habitify allows you to create good habits and break bad ones. Good habits include things like meditation, reading, running and journaling, while bad habits include smoking, overeating, nail biting and too much screen time. The app provides a number of presets, but you can also create your own habit by entering data manually or using AI suggestions.
Developing effective habits requires some self-reflection. Think about the parts of your life that could use some attention. This may be related to health, fitness, mind, mood, career or studies. Whatever it is, before you start, make sure you're willing to do something about it.
Once you've established your habits, it's time to add them to specific “areas.” This is one of the most innovative and useful parts of the Habitify app. Areas can be specific to the time of day, such as morning, afternoon, or evening, but can also be centered around specific locations, such as the gym, pool, or morning walk to work. By grouping related habits, you'll know exactly which habits you need to focus on at different times of the day or when you're in certain places. This also helps keep your list of habits clean.
Stay motivated
Once you've formed a habit, it's time to end it. This is one of the most enjoyable parts of the whole process because your body releases dopamine, which is a key part of the brain's reward system. This stimulates motivation and gives a rush of pleasure when the goal is achieved.
Habits can be quickly managed by swiping: swiping left registers a habit as completed, while swiping right reveals other options, including the ability to add a note. It is also possible to add integration with platforms such as Apple Health, Fitbitand Strava. These connections allow Habitify to automatically flag habits when they are tracked by appropriate medical equipment.
To help you progress, Habitify offers streak reports so you can see which of your habits are moving in the right direction and which ones have stalled. There are also graphs and statistics that allow you to drill down into each specific habit.
Another way to stay motivated is to connect with friends through the app. This could be creating a circle of running buddies or like-minded friends who want to hold each other accountable to their eating habits. The Friends tab allows you to share progress, encouragement, and achieve your goals with others.
Time to start
If you want to join the habit tracking movement, I would recommend starting small. Your first step should be so easy that you can't say no. Two Minute Habits are a great starting point. Then it's a case of being present every day, which is totally doable if you choose small daily actions rather than big, unattainable goals. And finally, be patient. Lasting change doesn't happen overnight.
Habitify offers both free and premium plans. The free version has very limited functionality: a maximum of three habits, no integration or advanced reminders. Premium, on the other hand, provides full functionality with unlimited options and full integration.
Habitify Premium costs $6.99 per month or $39.99 per year. In the UK it costs £2.50 per month, with an annual bill of £29.99. Lifetime options are also available.
Download Habitify at iOS or Android.
